Muriel Lienau to head the European bottled water federation for the next 2 years
The European bottled water federation (Efbw) has elected Muriel Lienau , CEO of Nestlé Waters in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa (Emena), as new president for the next two years.
Lienau heads both the Nestlé Waters Business in Emena and Nestlé Waters' global strategic business unit. He spent over 29 years at Nestlé, working in France, Germany and Switzerland, promoting the quality of natural mineral and spring waters and working for the protection of river basins across Europe.
The appointment comes after the end of the mandate of J ean-Pierre Deffis, who led EFBW since 2014 and has contributed to the introduction of a program focused on sustainability and a circular economy, in addition to preserving the quality of natural mineral waters.
The new president said he intends to "promote mineral and spring waters as the most natural and healthy source of hydration" and aims to further strengthen the sector's sustainability actions. Lienau stated: “Our category wants to be a driving force for achieving a circular economy and sustainable food systems; we want to be an inspiration to others. Mineral water producers are pioneers in creating and financing packaging collection programs and using fully recyclable packaging materials. As an industry we will intensify our efforts in favor of collection, supporting reimbursement systems so that we can use more quality recycled materials to make our packaging ”.
Efbw Secretary General Patricia Fosselard added: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank our outgoing president, Jean-Pierre Deffis, for his commitment to promoting the sector's sustainability agenda. I am delighted to welcome Muriel as our new president and I look forward to working with her. With strong collective action, and with the help of our national associations, company members and partners, I am confident that we can achieve our goals. " .
