Michal Ron (Sace) elected president of the Berne Union

The challenge: to find strategies to support exporters and banks in our economic context

Michal Ron , Sace's chief International officer, was elected president of the Berne Union (International Union of Export Credit and Investment Insurers). The non-profit association currently represents 85 organizations from over 70 countries around the world, including the main export credit agencies, multilateral and private insurers active in supporting exports and internationalization. Collectively, Union members provide coverage and funding for approximately $ 2.5 trillion in operations annually, with short- and medium-long term risks, supporting 13% of cross-border trade globally.

Michal Ron, in Sace since 2005, has a long experience in the world of finance and export credit. His responsibilities in the field of international relations include activities related to the works of the Paris Club and the recovery of sovereign credits, participation in Sace within the working groups of the OECD and the EU and, finally, the management of reinsurance agreements and relationships with other export credit agencies, including members of the Berne Union (of which she was vice president for two consecutive years, from 2015 to 2017). In 2017 she was elected secretary general of the international working group on export credits. Previously he held the position of Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the African Trade Insurance Agency.

Michal Ron's presidency will last for two years and will be mainly focused on identifying innovative solutions and common strategies to support exporters and banks in the current difficult economic context, to foster multilateralism and dialogue between developed and emerging economies, OECD members and non-OECD, and to share initiatives and standard practices aimed at encouraging sustainable projects, with a focus on climate finance.

The Berne Union, whose annual general meeting has just ended, has the main purpose of creating a forum for professional discussion and sharing between the major players in the trade finance industry, helping to spread the principles of transparency and free competition, as well as facilitating collaboration between the various member countries.
