Metro Italia closed the 2019-20 financial year with a turnover of 1.4 billion

It gains market share, now at 5.1% of the total food horeca market

Despite the effects of the pandemic and the related restrictive measures adopted by the Government, which had strong impacts on the overall market for out-of-home consumption, Metro Italia in the fiscal year 2019/2020 recorded only a temporary decrease in its turnover which was attested to 1.4 billion Euros, equal to -18%, gaining however market share which has now reached 5.1% of the total food horeca market.

The company reported a very positive trend in the first quarter (Q1) and a strong recovery in sales in Q4, which partially offset the contraction in the second and third quarters, heavily impacted by the health emergency. In this scenario, Metro Italia, thanks to numerous and timely initiatives in support of the horeca sector and thanks to the guarantee of choice between the cash and carry and Fsd distribution channels, has increased its share of the Food Horeca market to 5.1%, ( + 0.8% points) in the fiscal year 2019/20. In October 2020 the company also strengthened its presence on the national territory, with the opening of an Fsd warehouse inside the Fara in Sabina logistics hub to serve all the horeca professionals in the metropolitan area of Rome.

"But we don't stop there, we will continue to raise awareness of institutions and public opinion on the need to safeguard the consumer market outside the home which is the flagship of the beautiful country".

The distribution network is completed with two warehouses respectively in the metropolitan areas of Milan and Rome, dedicated exclusively to FSD. The company boasts around 1,500,000 professional customers, with a specific focus on professionals catering and hospitality, and 30,000 products in the assortment. Worldwide, the company has approximately 16 million customers. Metro has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for 7 consecutive years. The company operates in 34 countries and employs over 97,000 people around the world. In the financial year 2019/20, it generated a turnover of 25.6 billion euros.
