Weber's barbecues increasingly hi-tech

Acquires California-based June, specializing in smart technology devices

Weber-Stephen Products, the world leader in barbecues, today announced the acquisition of 100% of California-based June, a company specializing in the production of smart appliances and technology devices, especially JuneOS, a connected operating system for smart devices. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Previously Weber and June had already collaborated on the development of Weber Connect, a technological platform for precision cooking on the grill thanks to which it is possible to grill easily and to perfection, regardless of one's level of experience, thanks to an innovative interaction wi-fi system between barbecue and the smartphone. Weber Connect won the best award  Best Connected Home Product at the Consumer Electronics Show 2020.

"This acquisition represents a significant step forward in the continuation of our strategy of transforming the concept of outdoor cooking through products, services and digital experiences that make cooking on the grill a more dynamic and fun experience", said Chris Scherzinger , CEO of Weber- Stephen Products LLC. “June proved to be an indispensable partner in developing our Weber Connect platform. Thanks to June's expertise and technology, we will be able to accelerate our connected innovation programs and better respond to the needs of grillers with new products and services capable of offering simplicity and at the same time stimulating new barbecue cooking experiences thanks to advanced functions".

June co-founders Matt Van Horn and Nikhil Bhogal will join Weber as June's President and Weber's Senior Vice President of Technology and Connected Devices, respectively. Bhogal will be involved in all of Weber's research and development programs across all product categories.

“We are proud to join Weber, the world leader in barbecue and partner with whom we have enjoyed a fruitful and important relationship”, said Matt Van Horn. "This agreement greatly expands the scope of our technology and represents an exciting challenge for all June staff: to continue bringing intelligent cooking devices into homes around the world".
