USA. Freshly (Nestlé) opens 5th distribution center
The Austell site generates 250 new jobs
Freshly, a home-cooked meal delivery company, has opened a distribution center in Austell generating 250 new jobs, according to a press release on February 10, 2020. The 134,000-square-foot facility located approximately 15 miles west of Atlanta, it is the New York startup's largest distribution center and the fifth facility built to date. The center is expected to increase distribution capacity by 40%. Right now, Freshly delivers around 1 million meals a week, according to the company.
Nestlé USA acquired Freshly in October (see EFA News article dated 11-02-21), bringing the company's value to 950 million dollars. In 2020, Freshly also expanded operations on the US West Coast and launched FreshlyFit, a healthy full meal alternative. The company has distribution centers in California, New Jersey, Maryland and Arizona. "We are excited to continue expanding operations in the Southeast in 2021, and we plan to build more facilities this year that will help us fulfill the corporate mission of providing nutritious and affordable meals", said in the announcement CEO Mike Wystrach .
Approximately 150 new hires across operations, support personnel, warehousing and maintenance accompanied the initial launch of the Austell center. According to the announcement, about 100 more will be hired by the end of the year. "Americans have changed the way to buy food, and our logistics network has helped make it easier for businesses to adapt and upgrade their services to meet evolving customer needs”, said Pat Wilson, of the Georgia Department of Economic Development Committee.
