IFAD: 44th session of Board of Governors kicks off

The 44th session of the Board of Governors of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) opens tomorrow, February 17. Heads of state, ministers and agricultural development experts will meet to discuss the strategic importance of investing in rural areas of the poorest countries in the world and how to fill the funding gap for agricultural development. In a world shaken by climate change and the Covid-19 pandemic with its devastating impact on the economy and society, investments in rural areas play a fundamental role in building stability and peace.
Guests of honor of the IFAD Board of Governors will be: Luigi Di Maio , Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic; João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, president of the Republic of Angola; Imran Ahmad Khan Niazi, Prime Minister of Pakistan; Agnes Kalibata , UN special correspondent for the 2021 Food Systems Summit; Sabrina Dhowre Elba, IFAD goodwill ambassador and agricultural producer.
Member States will also appoint IFAD President for a four-year term this year.
