The European Union confirms the suspension of imports of Brazilian meat and other products starting Thursday, September 3. The European Commission announced this in a statement, specifying that Brazil "will no longer be authorized to export food-producing animals and products of animal origin intended for human consumption to the Union. This will affect products such as beef and poultry meat, eggs, honey, and intestines. Brazil was placed on an EU list of countries that do not comply with rules on the use of antibiotics in animals last May."

However, a glimmer of hope for the South American country comes from an audit involving poultry and honey, which is expected to be concluded by next weekend. European Commission spokesperson Eva Hrncirova stated this at the daily press briefing, specifying, however, that the audit's outcome will not be immediate "because the experts will need time to draw up their conclusions." Therefore, at this time, EU officials are still "working closely with the Brazilian authorities."
