New acquisition for Carlsberg in Germany

Addition of the Wernesgrüner brewery and brand

The Carlsberg Group has signed an agreement with Bitburger Braugruppe, for the acquisition of the Wernesgrüner brewery in Saxony, Germany. The economic amount of the transaction was not disclosed. The purchase also includes obtaining the German beer brand, and would be part of the Group's business plan to strengthen its market position in the central regions of northern and eastern Germany. Located in the Vogtland of Saxony, the factory presents itself as a "modern and efficient brewery" with a production capacity of around 1 million hectoliters; in 2019 it generated revenues of 31 million euros.

"The acquisition of the Wernesgrüner brewery will strengthen our position in the central regions of northern and eastern Germany," said Cees' t Hart , Group CEO. "We will be able to offer stronger and more varied production to our customers and the acquisition will bring significant advantages both in production and in logistics ".

The transaction is expected to be completed on January 1, 2021. Earlier this month, it was announced that the merger between Carlsberg Uk and Marston's to form Carlsberg Marston's Brewing Company had been cleared by the Competition and Markets Authority.
