Heineken Spain, first beverage company "Zero Waste to Landfill"
The Cruzcampo plant recycled over 1,148 tons of waste in 2020
Heineken Spain awarded the seal "From Waste to Resources: Zero to Landfill" by Saica Natur. This is a big step forward in sustainability, leading the company to be the first beverage producer in the country with a "Zero Waste to Landfill" factory. Specifically, this is the Cruzcampo plant in Jaén, which obtained certification for having recycled over 1,148 tons of waste in 2020. This seal guarantees compliance with the highest quality standards in waste recovery, as it is necessary to achieve it make a net recovery of 95% or more.
The Cruzcampo plant in Jaén is one of the most developed, in terms of sustainability, of Heineken Spain. The plant, already working exclusively with 100% renewable energy, is able to return all the water contained in the beers it produces to nature and will soon be the first zero-emission brewery in Spain, operating exclusively with renewable energy, thanks to solar energy and the use of biomass.
Guillaume Duverdier, President of the Group in Spain said: "This milestone represents a major step forward in our ambition to become the first zero-emission brewery in Spain by 2025. A challenge that we will achieve thanks to our commitment to the circular economy renewable energies, producing beers that the world, people and the planet like".
