British American Tobacco invests 20 million in Italy
In 2021 it will purchase 7 thousand tons of tobacco grown in our country
Also for 2021 British American Tobacco Italia chooses Italian agriculture. On the occasion of the event "Purchase of tobacco and sustainable supply chain: BAT's commitment to the Italian tobacco sector", organized by Bat and Italbab in collaboration with Confagricoltura and CIA-Agricoltori Italiani, also in the presence of the Undersecretary for agricultural and food policies and forestry Gian Marco Centinaio, the company has announced the purchase of 7,000 tons of the best tobaccos manufactured in Italy - 3,500 of which come from Campania - for a total investment of 20 million euros.
The relationship between Bat and Italian tobacco growing is a consolidated relationship, constantly nurtured over the last fifteen years. To supply the 7,000 tons of tobacco throughout 2021 will in fact once again be the Tobacco Producers Organization Italbab, which brings together over 400 companies throughout the country that operate on a total area of about 3,000 hectares and involve more than 10,000 workers. For Italbab, Campania is a territory of excellence. In this region, there are, in fact, 250 of the approximately 400 companies belonging to the association, which employ approximately 6,000 workers.
In the last 10 years, Bat Italia has invested over 200 million euros in Italian tobacco growing and contributes every year to the Treasury with over 3 billion euros in excise duties. An important commitment towards the country, which translates into the desire to continue contributing to the primacy of Italy as the first tobacco producing country in the European Union (share of about 30% and total volumes of around 50,000 tons per year).
