Germany. Gaf's innovative solutions help crop monitoring
Contract signed with the German Länder of Saxony-Anhalt
Gaf Ag has signed a contract with the German Länder of Saxony-Anhalt for the operational implementation, expected in Germany from 2021, of the crop monitoring system of the European Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). In detail, the contract, which has a duration of three years with the possibility of an extension for a further year, provides for various activities concerning both the continuous and fully automated monitoring, as well as the verification, of the numerous types of crops that cover the entire area of Saxony-Anhalt, and both the assessment of compliance with the agri-environmental and climatic measures in force.
Gaf will offer the service using its innovative cloud-based solutions, which allow automatic monitoring of agricultural parcels, and will use data from the optical and radar satellite missions of the Sentinels of the European Copernicus program. The contract is contextual to a series of reforms underway within the CAP. The European commission, in fact, has recently decided to implement a new control system for grant declarations that is based on innovative technologies that use automatic monitoring procedures based on earth observation data from the Copernicus program.
The new comprehensive continuous monitoring system is intended to replace the current 5% On-The-Spot (OTS) sample system. Gaf's wide range of innovative digital geoinformation solutions are able to provide highly accurate, systematic and regular information thanks to Earth observation data, in compliance with the latest CAP requirements. On the basis of machine and deep learning algorithms developed by Gaf as well as thanks to the analysis of time series, it is in fact possible to offer verified information for more than 100 classes of agricultural land use and actually enter a new one in the use of analysis of geo-information data for operational use.
