Nestlé Professional introduces protective films for "on the go" machines
New collaboration with Nanoveu; project for Nescafé and We Proudly Serve Starbucks machines
Nestlé Professional is working on the introduction of self-disinfecting, antiviral and antibacterial protections for the screen of "out of home" coffee machines. The company has collaborated with Nanoveu, a company active in technological research, to create a protective film to be applied on Nescafé and We Proudly Serve Starbucks coffee machines. "We want to be able to support our customers, help them serve their consumers safely and reliably", said Reinhold Jakobi, Head of Strategic Business Unit at Nestlé Professional. NanoshieldTM film consists of a PET sheet with a resin layer, containing an active copper component. The films have been subjected to rigorous scientific tests capable of demonstrating their antiviral and antibacterial properties.
The self-disinfecting properties of NanoshieldTM film remain active in various practical use cases, such as high frequency touch and daily cleaning. The company leveraged its research and development experience in virology and food safety at the Nestlé Institute of Food Safety and Analytical Sciences based in Lausanne, Switzerland, to scientifically validate several antiviral solutions. A scientific study including the results of the NanoshieldTM product will soon be published in a peer-reviewed journal. The custom films are designed to perfectly fit the touch screen and Nescafé coffee machines equipped with touch pads, available worldwide. Specific nanoshields will also be available for We Proudly Serve Starbucks coffee, but only in select markets.
Zenon Mandralis, Head of Research and Development for Nestlé Professional, said: “We continue to explore a wide range of new solutions such as app ordering, touchless machines and screen protectors to support our customers. Screen protectors are a great solution because they can be easily used on current beverage machines and complement the advanced hygiene measures we already have in place for our coffee solutions".
