Orsero for a more sustainable business

The 2020 sustainability report presented/Attachment

Orsero SpA, a company engaged at European level in the import and distribution of fresh fruit and vegetables and listed on the Star market of the Italian Stock Exchange, presented the 2020 sustainability report at the shareholders' meeting. The report provides an overview of the Group activities and performance in terms of Corporate Social Responsibility. "We operate in a sustainable business", stated Raffaella Orsero , vice president and CEO. "Fresh fruit and vegetables have a positive effect, not only on our well-being, but also on our planet: they are in fact the foods with the lowest environmental impact of the food pyramid. Aware of this double value, we work every day to improve the quality of our products on the one hand, and offer solutions that facilitate the consumption of fruit and vegetables even outside the home, and on the other, to further reduce the impact. environment of our business, acting on all factors, from the selection of productions to packaging, up to attention to waste and the reduction of processing waste".

Among the sustainability priorities that the Orsero Group has identified and developed during 2020 are: safety, traceability and product quality. During 2020, in Europe alone, the Group carried out over 7,500 quality checks per day. There is also sustainable supply chain management. Particular attention is paid to the Global Gap and Rainforest Alliance certifications, owned by 90% of the pineapple producers and over 85% of the banana producers marketed by the Group in the reference year. Finally, there is the management of energy, emissions and waste. In 2020, direct greenhouse gas emissions were reduced by 5.3% compared to 2019 and by about 20% compared to 2018, mainly due to the reduction in energy consumption related to the fleet of refrigerated ships after the introduction of the new navigation schedule. Also with regard to the fleet, in 2020, SOx emissions (Sulfur oxides) were reduced by more than 80% thanks to the use of fuel with a reduced sulfur content as per the international regulation IMO 2020.

Fight against waste are the principles underlying the partnership established in 2020 with the European Food Banks Federation (Feba) and the Banco Alimentare Onlus Foundation. The initiative allowed the Group to donate over 440 quintals of fruit and vegetables in one year. The Group supports work-life balance and ensures fair and stable employment relationships, based on respect and promotion of talents. During 2020, also following the results of a company climate survey, Orsero created its first company intranet portal, with the aim of making all employees feel more informed, connected and above all close. Also in 2020, the company joined Parks, an association that supports the creation of inclusive and respectful work environments for all employees, especially LGBT + ones.

The 2020 sustainability report, now in its second edition, was drawn up in compliance with the “Gri sustainability reporting standards 2016” guidelines published by the GrI (Global Reporting Initiative) according to the "Core" option. The complete balance sheet is attached.
