Besana, the centenary year
The Calcagni family has been at the helm for 4 generations
In 2021 Besana, a company based in San Gennaro Vesuviano, leader in the dried and dried fruit sector, celebrates the 100th anniversary of its foundation. A century of history carried on for 4 generations by the same family. The history of Besana, in fact, is intertwined with that of the Calcagni family, which from the first post-war period led the company to the era of Industry 4.0, e-commerce and globalization, up to the partnership with the Spanish group Importaco ( which today controls the 51% majority of Besana) concluded last year to give life to the largest alliance in the Mediterranean in the nuts sector.
Besana today represents the main Italian platform at European level by turnover. It has 450 employees employed in 3 different production plants (two in Italy and one in the UK), in which 25 thousand tons of dried and dried fruit are processed every year. With a turnover of around 200 million dollars, Besana exports to the five continents and imports raw materials from 30 countries around the world.
