Bresaola Valtellina Igp, sales decline in 2020

Exports and blocking of out-of-home catering are weighing

2020 was a difficult year for Bresaola della Valtellina Igp, above all due to the decline in exports and consumption outside the home. According to the data of the Consortium, the overall production of the 16 certified companies stood at 12,607 tons (-8.78% on 2019). Just over 35 thousand tons of raw material (90% of the cut tip of the hip), of selected European and world origin, were launched for production. In terms of consumption, the sector recorded a value of 454 million euros (-7.59% on 2019) with an impact on the province of Sondrio of 214,321 million euros (-8.78%) for a sector that has 1,400 employees . Among the sales channels, modern distribution is confirmed as the main one. Exports represent 7% of production, with a value of 18.5 million euros.

The purchase of the product in trays, already predominant in previous years, grew in absolute terms (+ 2.3% on 2019) with 6,090 tons, i.e. 50% of the total production of Bresaola della Valtellina Igp.
