Covid does not bend Cesena Fiera
Macfrut, the first fair in digital format in the fruit and vegetable sector, recorded a massive international presence
Covid does not bend Cesena Fiera which closes 2020 with a budget profit. Although last year was the worst in history for world trade fair systems, the Cesena company managed to respond to the crisis through new ideas combined with an agile and dynamic organizational structure. The Cesena Fiera financial statements, presented this morning and approved by the shareholders, illustrate what has been said: the value of production fell by 75%, from 5.3 million euros to 1.3 million euros, due to the impossibility of organizing events, practically for the whole of 2020. Despite this, the net profit was 80 thousand euros.
The main factor that led to this result was the conception of Macfrut Digital, the first fair in digital format in the fruit and vegetable sector, an innovative event that recorded a massive international presence (over 50% of 520 exhibitors and 18,000 visitors in representation of 152 countries), thanks also to the support of the Ice Agency and the Emilia-Romagna region. The results of Macfrut Digital (see EFA News article from 1-3-21) "have not only made Cesena Fiera a pioneer in the digital proposal but have contributed significantly to the positive results", a press release says. The prospects for the future of the Cesena fair company are also good. An important signal in this direction comes from the capital increase subscribed by the shareholders for 509 thousand euros to support the development plan and the planned investments. There is also optimism regarding the special edition of Macfrut (see article EFA News of 5-2-21 ), the international fruit and vegetable fair, scheduled for 7-9 September scheduled for "presence" in the Rimini exhibition center and even in digital mode.
In recent months, the acquisition of "C'era una volta Antiquariato", the monthly appointment dedicated to antiques enthusiasts, has been completed, an event that will be managed directly by Cesena Fiera. Finally, new investments are planned in the transformation of some pavilions into multifunctional environments capable of also hosting sports and recreational activities. And if the exhibition activity has been suspended for months, Cesena Fiera has made itself available as a vaccination center of the Romagna Ausl which carries out between 800 and 1000 daily inoculations. "Despite a situation of objective difficulty in the exhibition sector, we are optimistic about the company's prospects", explains Renzo Piraccini, president of Cesena Fiera. "The recovery of the sector in the general framework of a restart of the national economy, combined with a lean and efficient structure which is Cesena Fiera, ensure that we can look to the future with confidence, and I believe we will be able to guarantee positive results for our shareholders and, more generally, a good induction for the Cesena area”.
