Prosciutto di Parma back in the spotlight at Sial

At the Paris food fair, the protection consortium will occupy a large exhibit space to showcase its member companies

The Prosciutto di Parma Consortium is once again taking center stage at SIAL, the International Food Exhibition, one of the most important international trade shows dedicated to the agri-food sector, scheduled to take place in Paris from October 17 to 21.

As usual, the Parma PDO protection association will provide its members with a large space (Hall 6 – Booth E119) where they can hold meetings with clients and guests, serving as a sort of headquarters for its member companies, highlighted by the iconic display of Parma hams.

“Sial represents an important opportunity for us to meet and exchange ideas with international industry professionals,” comments Alessandro Utini, president of the Prosciutto di Parma Consortium. “In a very challenging economic and geopolitical context, marked by international tensions, trade uncertainties, and new challenges for businesses, we believe it is essential to strengthen our dialogue with our partners and other producers. Our participation in the trade show is part of a strategy to promote Prosciutto di Parma in foreign markets, with the goal of consolidating our presence in countries where we are already well-established and seizing new development opportunities in newer and more promising markets.”

The event will also serve as an opportunity to share the Consortium’s key projects with stakeholders, ranging from sustainability to training. “We continue to invest in strategic initiatives for the sector’s future, such as the ecological transition project carried out in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Milan and the Proscuitto di Parma Academy, established to foster the training of new professionals and pass on to younger generations the wealth of knowledge and expertise that distinguishes our PDO,” concludes Utini.

In 2025, exports of Prosciutto di Parma generated revenue of 315 million euros, thanks to nearly 2.5 million hams exported, accounting for 37% of total production. The United States remains the leading foreign market, with approximately 730,000 Parma hams imported, worth nearly 100 million euros, despite a decline in volumes compared to the previous year due to the introduction of tariffs and the resulting general uncertainty. Exports continue to represent a strategic component for the sector, which is focusing closely on both consolidating traditional markets and developing new commercial opportunities.
