Skretting Italy rallies the value chain for post-COVID opportunities

The new aperitivONline platform is helping to reimagine aquaculture food systems

Recognising that the food landscape is likely to be very different as the world emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic, Skretting Italy has been hard at work alongside many of the country’s leading aquaculture producers and other stakeholders to ascertain how the value chain can best prepare and innovate to meet new market demands and trends. "aperitivONline" is series of interactive webinars, managed in cooperation with Turin based Lce,  that have run regularly throughout Italy’s lockdown. These have been providing fish farmers and other related businesses with invaluable insights from a wealth of external guests, including chefs, retailers, food designers, academics, journalists, food industry executives and NGOs. The primary goal is to help everyone with a connection to the industry identify opportunities to establish healthier and more sustainable supply chains that also champion local production and reduce supply risks.

“Through these webinars, we have been reimagining Italy’s aquaculture proposition, focusing specifically on local priorities and what consumers will want from us post-COVID. We are confident that through these endeavours and the investments and innovations that follow, we will build a much more resilient and valued industry. We also believe that this approach could also be adapted and implemented to many other important seafood markets,” said Skretting Italy’s Umberto Luzzana.

The aperitivONline initiative is part of Skretting Italy’s ongoing “Acqua in Bocca!” customer engagement project, which was launched in 2017 to help the sector develop an effective value proposition based on sustainability that meets market expectations and requirements. Skretting Italy has a number of further Acqua in Bocca! strategies in the pipeline and looks forward to announcing these in due course. Read the booklet here.

aperitivONline participant quotes:

“We are all focused on solving new and unexpected problems during such challenging times. In a moment like this, it is essential for companies and people to look ahead and share such problems, and to try to understand new market development.” Mario Pazzaglia, Head of Special Projects & Scientific External Relations, Agro Ittica Lombarda SpA.

“I appreciate Skretting’s efforts to provide insights on new market developments and trends in a changing scenario. Even more appreciated is the whole ‘Acqua in Bocca’ approach, which is offering the Italian aquaculture value chain a common platform to share experiences and develop coordinated actions.” Roberto Cò, Owner of Aqua srl.

“Creating added value for our products by investing on processing and on the link with the territory is a long-term priority for our company. We appreciated the aperitivOnline Skretting initiative in that it gave us an opportunity to look outside our world, share experiences and collect ideas from different value chains and markets.” Francesco Armanini, Owner of Troticoltura Armanini.
